Medieval Towns and Villages

Sounds of human settlements from the middle ages

A comprehensive sound library of sounds from the medieval era, created through research of the materials, technology, and the way of life of the middle ages.

As with all our Ambience Kits, this library contains different kinds of assets to help you compose custom soundscapes or create new layered sound effects that fit your project perfectly.

Furthermore, this collection includes noiseprints (aka roomtones) extracted from both the ready-made ambience scenes and isolated sound elements that contained useful textures. Those are very useful as a base to create your own ambience loops or use them creatively in other ways.

Apart from combining the isolated elements to create custom scenes or effects, this library also includes ready-made scenes produced with our innovative True3D Audio™ mixing system. Our True3D Audio™ mixing system composes the scene by layering the sound sources inside a virtual 3D scene and then renders the result taking into account the acoustics and the interaction between the sound sources, the surface materials, the occlusion of sound from structures, and the sound transmission effects of distance, temperature, and humidity. At the core of the True3D Audio™ mixing system is a high-resolution holophonic encoder that mixes everything as a spherical projection around a listener point. After compositing all the sound layers, high-quality decoders are used to export the spherical image to three industry-standard formats: Stereo, Surround, and Ambisonics, with the ability to export in any immersive format such as Hexagon, 7.1.2 Dolby Atmos Bed, Auro-3D, Cube, IMAX, Hamasaki 22.2, or custom channel configurations (those extra formats can be made upon request with minimal cost for the client, contact us with your request).

The cherry on top is the included impulse responses provided in stereo, surround, and ambisonic formats. We include both reverberation IRs and occlusion IRs (a first), so you can use them with convolution in your projects to create ultra-realistic soundscapes. The reverberation IRs are also made using our proprietary True3D Audio™ mixing system for a realistic 3D reverberation.

This is an amazing sound library, tailor-made after long research to fit the aesthetics of the middle ages. Towns, castles, villages, fields, groves, wind through trees, small and large crowds, wagons, songbirds, farm animals, dogs, and much more, come together to create amazing medieval soundscapes.

Content Details

Our mission when we organized this collection was to make it easy to find the sounds you need.

So we took extra care to create the filenames of this collection in such way that it allows all files to be in the same flat folder structure. At the same time it’s easy to find the sound you need and by the second time you use this library, its organization will become second nature.

Each file contains the object and the action in the filename. Different types of the same event are denoted with capital letters in alphabetical order, and each type variations are enumerated with a two-digit incremental number.

You can see all the contents by clicking on the images below.

Specifications

This library contains 13 ready-made scenes to use as ambience loops in stereo, surround, and ambisonic formats with additional FocusBlur™ versions of all files, to sync with any visuals without breaking audiovisual spatial coherence. Additionally, the package also includes 838 isolated elements, 35 noiseprints, 8 reverb impulse responses, and 4 occlusion impulse responses. In total, this package contains 1.107 files. All files are delivered in pristine (PCM) wave files (WAV) at 96 kHz / 24-bit resolution with an uncompressed size of 8.22 GB.

Tech for Nerds

This is not your average sound library. This is content produced for serious creators, using cutting-edge technology and our innovative SFv4 Production Pipeline.

True3D Audio™

An audio production pipeline that allows us to mix anechoic sound elements into a virtual 3D scene with accurate acoustics simulation. Immersive realism for soundscapes, music, and any other material, compatible with any channel format. Learn More >>

Scene Analysis

A protocol for capturing, and documenting a location, to extract elements, model scenes, analyze sound behavior and synthesize new elements. All creative information and extra elements to achieve consistent aesthetics. Learn More >>

FocusBlur™

FocusBlur™ is a delicate psychoacoustic process that defocuses the signal of directional sources in soundscape or music material, producing a difficult to localize result with a subtle in-front focus, perfect for scene ambience, music, and non-diegetic material. Learn More >>

PureSource™

Get the purest sounds from any source. Free from reverberation, unwanted distortions, and irrelevant elements. Achieve perfect sound source localization and reverb integration for full immersion. Learn More >>

Refined Content

Optimized trimming, seamless looping, and detailed fading. All those results in oneshots that perfectly sync with visuals, and loops that cycle seamlessly in any playback scenario. What you get is content that just sounds great and cuts through the mix. Learn More >>

AuthorNorm™

AuthorNorm™ is a perceived loudness normalization protocol that fuses the natural behavior of sound in nature and how we use sound in digital media authoring. Designed to normalize audio assets used in the production and post-production stages, it’s perfect for any media authoring work. Learn More >>
